The iPeople schools will launch a network-wide voter education caravan to raise awareness of the importance of exercising the right of suffrage among the youth and to encourage them and those within their immediate communities to actively participate in the national elections in 2022.
This eight-month-long information drive, which is done in partnership with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), is part of the “E-Leksyon: Boto ko, Bukas Ko” voter education campaign led by Mapúa University, Malayan Colleges Laguna, Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Malayan High School of Science, University of Nueva Caceres, National Teachers College, and the APEC Schools.
The main highlight of this initiative is the conduct of a series of online fora on various electoral process concerns, which will be hosted by each of the schools.
Topics such as “Suffrage as a Right or Privilege,” “the Importance of Youth Vote,” “Dynamics of Philippine Elections,” “Elections and the Education Sector,” and “Elections and Regional Development” will be discussed alongside the conduct of debates, contests, and other activities during the online caravan.
Aiming to spread awareness to more students and individuals, the schools will also develop learning modules based on the topics of the fora that can be used as resource materials in social sciences classes and that will be available to the public.
The first online forum will take place on September 17, 2021, Friday, at 5 p.m. and will be hosted by Malayan Colleges Mindanao. The series of fora will be streamed live on the campaign’s official page at www.facebook.com/ELeksyon.BotoKoBukasKo.
The iPeople’s voter education campaign aims to foster nationalism and civic responsibility among its students.
“Through this campaign, I expect that our students will realize that their actions, individually and collectively, can create social impact. The realization of such power and responsibility can inspire them to eventually register to vote and then vote according to their conscience,” said Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, Mapúa University and iPeople president and chief executive officer.
“We all need to do our share. As an important social institution, we should remain steadfast in our commitment to the nation by providing our communities with the opportunity to appreciate and exercise their constitutionally sanctioned right to vote,” Dr. Vea added.
