Filipinos are always on top when it comes to discovering the hippest tunes. Today’s artist that will spice up your playlists is the 22-year old artist LÜCY from Taiwan Beats. LÜCY has entranced her listeners with her unique flair of combining refreshing folk style with dream pop and her magnetic yet laid back voice. Her single “Cactus” made a big splash in 2020 and has 1.8 million streams on Spotify to date.

Since then, she has swept the indie scene with her dream-like voice and free-spirited nature that allowed her to be part of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona in 2022 across continental Europe alongside popular artists like Dua Lipa

As LÜCY was on tour, her widely anticipated first album, eponymously titled LÜCY was also announced. It is a twelve-track audible diary and a deep dive into her fascinating and intriguing creative universe. The entire album is a journey with each song acting as a marking of the bits and pieces encountered in her life like family, friendship and love.

LÜCY is an honest album with elements of introspection. The track titled “2021” is the artist’s heartfelt song to herself. It symbolizes the years 2020 and 2021 and represents her at the ages of 20 and 21. It is a track that is akin to a self-portrait, with audio elements of her daily life. Throughout the album, listeners can expect LÜCY’s creative talent and abilities such as a song written in her family’s indigenous language and a collaboration with international japanese band Hitsujibungaku.

Her love for music stemmed from the freedom and creativity in improvisation that is encouraged in music. Today, as LÜCY continues to grow in her career, she is on the lookout for her next set of inspirations and artists to collaborate with. The next place she wishes to visit is the Philippines.

“I’ve heard about the Filipinos’ love for music, and I look forward to performing there very soon. I’m also excited to collaborate with the local artists as I’ve enjoyed the process of making music with others and bringing to life a different kind of tune from different nationalities.” said LÜCY.

With over 23.2 thousand followers on Instagram, LÜCY continues to move up in the ever-expanding world of Mandapop and is ready to conquer the rest of the world.
